A story using idiomatic expressions
Once upon a time, there was a young boy called John.
He liked to help everyone and his friends used to say
that he had a heart of gold.
However, his best friend and cousin, Michael, was a bad egg. Because John thought that blood is thicker than water, he
promised himself to help Michael to be a better person, but he knew that this
task was not going to be a piece of cake.
Yet, John had his heart in the right
place and was full of beans, so
he tried to change Michael.
Every day, John talked to his cousin about how
Michael’s mother worked so hard to bring
home the bacon and showed him that it was very important that Michael
helped his mother at home more and that it was nice to help others.
Finally, one day, Michael crossed his heart and
promised to have a heart for his
mother.
On the first couple of days, John didn’t see any
difference in Michael’s behaviour, but he wasn’t going to lose heart and cry over
spilt milk. He tried to make his cousin have a change of heart about how he valued his mother’s efforts.
After a few weeks of work, he started to see a slight
change of heart in Michael’s ways and, after a year, he saw his cousin helping
his mother with all his heart and soul.
In a nutshell, John had achieved his aim. He was all heart; he was very emotional with
the result of his work.
